Tactics Maiden

What is Tactics Maiden

Tactics Maiden is a strategy RPG that closely resembles games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Shining Force. It relies strongly on character customization and strategy which makes it quite difficult. It’s free to download with in app purchases.

If you’ve played a Final Fantasy Tactics game or the old Shining Force games before then you know how this works. You have a set of characters you enter battle with. You move them around what is essentially a chess board and attack the enemy using attacks and spells. The game keeps things like animations light so the game play is actually fairly quick. There are also 36 character classes, five difficulty settings, and the graphics aren’t bad.

You get the first eight levels for free and you can unlock the rest of the game for $4.99 if you want to. The strategy elements require you to train your characters, switch them out, and use a variety of classes in every scenario. It’s also quite challenging and some people have never made it out of the first level. There is also a story line that you can follow along with.

A solid tactical RGP.

PROS
  • Requires a lot of strategy and retooling of your group to win battles.
  • You can play the first 8 levels for free which is a generous portion of the game before you have to pay for it.
  • The mechanics and animation styles allow this to be a fast-paced game which is difficult to do in this genre.
  • Character customization, 36 classes, and the aforementioned strategy give you a lot of different ways to play this game.
  • The graphics are simple but they get the job done. There’s also a story line that contains over 80 scenarios total. It’s a long game.
CONS
  • May be too difficult for some casual gamers.
  • Google Play Games services, including achievements and cloud saving, would’ve been awesome.
Tactics Maiden is a solid offering in the tactical RPG space. It’s much more simple in terms of graphics and mechanics from similar, big name titles but it also manages to avoid falling into the same pitfalls like needlessly long attack animations that slow things down. Those who like these kinds of games will likely find it enjoyable and it’s free to download.
